LOCAL 2143

FORT ST. JOHN PROFESSIONAL FIREFIGHTERS
ASSOCIATION

The Fort St. John Fire Department was established in 1942 following a tragic fire that claimed the lives of two young children. In response, a group of dedicated community volunteers came together to form the town’s first firefighting brigade. With a second-hand truck outfitted with buckets, spades, and axes, they began their mission to protect the growing community.

After unionization in 1972, the department has evolved into a modern, professional fire service that responds to a wide range of emergencies, including fires, medical calls, motor vehicle accidents, hazardous material incidents, and technical rescues. Today, the Fort St. John Fire Department continues to uphold its long-standing tradition of service, commitment, and excellence in public safety.

IAFF Local 2143 proudly represents the professional firefighters of Fort St. John, ensuring that those who dedicate their lives to protecting the community have the resources, training, and support necessary to perform their jobs safely and effectively. As part of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) and the British Columbia Professional Fire Fighters’ Association (BCPFFA), we advocate for firefighter safety, professional standards, and the well-being of our members.

Beyond emergency response, Local 2143 is deeply committed to community involvement, supporting various charities, public safety initiatives, and fire prevention programs. We remain dedicated to serving the people of Fort St. John with professionalism, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to keeping our community safe.
